Green light during incubation: Effects on hatching characteristics in brown and white laying hens

چکیده
Providing light during incubation is being investigated as a method to improve welfare in later life poultry. This would more closely approximate chicken natural environment compared the current darkness. Previous studies showed promising results of on broiler welfare, but little known about effects laying hens. Especially, information its hatching characteristics (hatch time, hatchability, chick quality, body weight and embryonic age death) scarce requires investigation both white brown egg layers. In study, Dekalb White (DW) ISA Brown (ISA) eggs were incubated complete darkness (dark) or light:dark cycle 12L:12D throughout (light), resulting four treatment groups: DW-dark, DW-light, ISA-dark, ISA-light. treatments, green LEDs 520nm wavelength used, at an intensity 400 lux. First, transmission through eggshell was measured 27 eggs. Then, analysis performed 711 chicks two consecutive experimental rounds. Light higher eggshells than (N = 27, p < 0.001). had no 711, ≥ 0.1). Despite difference between hybrids, there interaction hybrid 471, 0.06). Hatch time longer navel quality better DW ISA, while death lower (all Males females similar scores except for beak which males 486, 0.003). To conclude, did not negatively affect either nor hen hybrids. Future research should therefore focus potential benefits welfare.

Effects of amino acids on egg number and egg mass of brown (heavy breed) and white (light breed) laying hens.
Different types (light to heavy) of laying hens are used in practice. There are questions about the optimum level of balanced protein (BP) supply in feed for different types of hens. Therefore, a broad range of amino acids intake levels [550 to 800 mg of true fecal digestible (TFD) Lys/hen per d] was tested on heavy (Lohmann Brown Classic) and light (Lohmann LSL Classic) laying hens from 24 to ...
متن کاملEffects of Green Tea Powder on Laying Performance and Egg Quality in Laying Hens
This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of feeding green tea powder on laying performance and egg quality in hens. A total 180 “Tetran Brown” laying hens aged 40 weeks were assigned to 6 treatments in a completely randomized design. Each treatment consisted of five replicates accommodating six layers per replication. The experimental diets were a negative control containing no g...

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of dietary inclusion of Mycofix Select (Biomin GmbH, Herzogenburg, Austria) on discrete egg parameters and quality characteristics of hens fed mycotoxin-contaminated diets (aflatoxin; AFLA) and deoxynivalenol (DON)) during a 10-wk trial. A 4 × 2 factorial design was used with 4 contamination levels: control, low (0.5 mg/kg of AFLA + 1.0 mg/kg ...
متن کاملEffects of laying hens housing system on laying performance, egg quality characteristics, and egg microbial contamination
The objective of this study was to compare the performance, egg quality, and microbial contamination of egg shells from hens maintained in different housing systems, such as conventional and enriched cages, litter, and aviaries. The housing system significantly (P < 0.001) influenced the performance characteristics. The highest egg production, lowest daily feed consumption, and feed conversion ...
متن کاملEnd-of-cycle bone quality in white- and brown-egg laying hens.
Broken and weak bones of laying hens are major welfare concerns in the table egg industry. Bone quality at the end of lay of brown- (Shaver 579) and white-(Shaver 2000) egg strains were compared. Prior to the start of the experiment, the hens had been housed in laying hen cages (2/cage). At 423 d of age (60 wk + 3 d), 24 hens of each strain were selected and individually caged, and egg producti...
